Ativan belongs to a class of drugs known as Benzodiazepines that are approved by the FDA for the treatment of anxiety, sleep difficulty due to stress, insomnia, status epilepticus, and is also used as anesthesia. This medication is also used to help treat patients suffering from alcohol withdrawal.
